Our scripture this morning is Galatians 6:8-10.
Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith.
Paul closes his letter to the Galatians with a warning about sin and encouragement for their work in Jesus’ name. We know that we will tire on our own and need God’s help to keep doing good. We must use the opportunities we are given to share the Good News.
We are an extension of God’s love in the world and “we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith.” Jesus taught that we must love others as God’s children, regardless of our situation or theirs. We all belong to God and we all bear His image.
This is not justifying ourselves through works (which is impossible) but being energized by the Spirit to respond to God’s love and do the work we have been called to accomplish. Paul tells us “those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit.” Salvation is offered to all who choose to follow Christ.
Gracious God, help us when we feel weak or tired of our calling. Show us the joy of a life spent in serving You, sharing Your love and the blessing of everlasting life with everyone. Amen.
