Our scripture this morning is ‭‭John‬ ‭14‬:‭1‬-‭4‬ and ‭27.

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way to the place where I am going. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.”

I have likely read this passage at every final hospital visit and funeral I have ever done. It is never easy but we are blessed with these words from the Master as He told those closest to Him that He was leaving them and returning to the Father. We can be sure that His promise for us is true.

Jesus knew that what God asked would be difficult, both for Himself and those here who loved Him. Yet He was willing to sacrifice Himself for our salvation, obedient even to death. With these words He comforts those He would leave behind, and gives us all hope that we too can be saved.

Jesus has prepared a place for all of us in His Father’s house. Accept this wonderful gift and the peace that it gives. Hear His reassurance, “Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid”. Jesus goes before us always.

Loving Lord, in Your example we find comfort and strength to face our worst fears. Bless us to be good examples of Your love to all the world. Amen.
