Our scripture this morning is Titus 3:3-7.
“Once we, too, were foolish and disobedient. We were misled and became slaves to many lusts and pleasures. Our lives were full of evil and envy, and we hated each other. But— When God our Savior revealed his kindness and love, he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit. He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior. Because of his grace he made us right in his sight and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life.”
Paul reminds us that we have no reason to feel superior to others because “once we, too, were foolish and disobedient” (v. 3). It is not through anything we have done ourselves that we are saved, but only because of God’s mercy. For this reason, we are called to bring others into the joy of a relationship with Him.
Jesus gave us the task of sharing God’s love with the world. Each believer is a voice for Christ, telling our brothers and sisters of His sacrifice for us. Through Him, we are made whole again and sent to bring the Good News everywhere.
God’s grace is given to all who repent of their sins. Paul tells us “He made us right in his sight and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life” (v. 7). This is His promise to all who accept His forgiveness and love.
Gracious God, we are humbled that You offer us the chance to be renewed by Your love. Make us strong in our faith and send us to share the news of our redemption to all, that they too may be saved. Amen.
