Our scripture today is Mark 4:31-32 (ESV).
It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when sown on the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth, yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes larger than all the garden plants and puts out large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade.
Jesus gives us an analogy for God’s kingdom several times in scripture. Our efforts in His name, which may seem small to begin with, can have a great and lasting impact. Like the tiny mustard seed that grows large enough to provide a home for the birds, our outreach can provide physical comfort and spiritual guidance for all God’s children in need. Jesus encourages us to continue our evangelism even when we can’t see the larger picture or the results.
Gracious God, You have called us to responsibility for all Your gifts. Help us to see one another as gifts as well, caring for everyone with Your love. Amen.
