Our scripture today is Zechariah 1:3 (MEV).
so you will say to them, “Thus says the Lord of Hosts: Return to Me, and I will return to you, says the Lord of Hosts.”
The prophet Zechariah, whose name means “Yahweh remembers”, was a contemporary of Haggai. They both encouraged the people in ruined Jerusalem to begin again as God’s people. By rebuilding their city and the Temple, they can feel the hope God offers them. God has never abandoned us, but because of our disobedience He sometimes allows us to see the consequences of going our own way – a desert experience intended to teach us to rely on Him completely. When we return asking forgiveness He is always ready to welcome us.
Gracious God, in Your mercy You sent Your Son to save us from our sin. Forgive us and bless us to share the joy of salvation with everyone. Amen.
