Our scripture today is Jeremiah 8:6 (MEV).
I listened and heard, but they did not speak what is right. No man repented of his wickedness, saying, “What have I done?” Everyone turned to his course, as the horse rushes into the battle.
Jeremiah gives us a lesson that is repeated several times in scripture -“everyone turned to his course”. We hear this in Judges 21:25 “In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.” In 2 Timothy 4:3 Paul tells us “For the time will come when people will not endure sound teaching, but they will gather to themselves teachers in accordance with their own desires.” This human tendency to hear what we want to hear and do what we want to do was the cause of our original separation from God. Thankfully, God has made a way for us to repent and return to Him through the blessing of His Son.
Loving Lord, we are sorry for our selfish ways that hurt our relationship with You and our brothers and sisters. Help us to see and hear Your truth and share it with the world. Amen.
