Our scripture today is 1 Kings 19:4 (ESV).

But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he asked that he might die, saying, “It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life, for I am no better than my fathers.”

Elijah is like many of us, who experience God’s wonders but still doubt. After he literally destroyed the prophets of Baal, Queen Jezebel threatens his life and he flees into the wilderness. There he experiences regret for his lack of faith and asks to die, saying “I am no better than my fathers.” Why when there are so many daily examples of God’s power and love do we fail to believe? God has other plans for Elijah and all of us.

Heavenly Father, forgive us when we fail out of fear. Bless us to be strong in faith and tell the world of Your love. Amen.
