Our scripture this morning is Galatians 6:8-10 (NLT).
Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith.
Paul warns against living only for ourselves. When we choose selfish actions we turn away from others and the plan God has for us. However, “those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit.” Living to please God and help others is how we are intended to live.
Jesus warned that we would face opposition. Paul writes “let’s not get tired of doing good”, even when it is hard. The world wants to control our thoughts and actions; God wants us to follow His guidance to love each other. We can’t do both.
Paul mentions specifically our “family of faith” and that fellow believers need our care as well. We are outwardly focused but always aware of the needs of those closest to us. Everyone deserves God’s love and care, demonstrated by faithful disciples.
Heavenly Father, we are grateful for Your Spirit, with us to guide us. Bless us to go in Your name to the world that all may know Your love. Amen.
