Our scripture this morning is 1 Peter 5:6-9.
So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are.
Peter quotes Psalm 55:22 ”Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you.“ We all need help at certain times and we are to accept it gratefully. Being overly self sufficient is a form of pride, especially when we refuse God’s help. Evil is waiting to convince you you don’t need God or others. Jesus warned us of the earthly opposition we would face and how evil tries to separate us from fellow Christians. Giving our problems to God in prayer relieves our worries and allows Him to work in our lives.
Heavenly Father, we are weak but You are strong. Help us to give up the things that trouble us that we might focus on our mission to share the Good News. Amen.
