Our scripture this morning is Isaiah 40:28-31.
Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and strengthens the powerless. Even youths will faint and be weary, and the young will fall exhausted; but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.
In this passage the prophet Isaiah reminds God’s people of His power and the fact that He shares His energy and strength with us. Some think God is too great to care about our human condition, that our petty problems and issues are beneath Him. The truth is He is too great to fail us!
God created all that is and that includes us. He knows everything about us, our every thought and action. Psalm 139:13 tells us “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.“ The God who made us and knows us will never fail His children.
We are told “those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength”, a reminder of God’s promise to us. Our human power and stamina are limited; God has no limits at all. He stands ready to forgive us when we return in repentance, and energizes us to be kingdom workers, called and blessed in His service.
Heavenly Father, we are ashamed of our selfish actions and amazed that You welcome us back. Strengthen us in faith that we may tell the world of Your saving love. Amen.
