Our scripture this morning is 1 John 4:13-16.

By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and do testify that the Father has sent his Son as the Savior of the world. God abides in those who confess that Jesus is the Son of God, and they abide in God. So we have known and believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them.

John teaches us the importance of our confession that “Jesus is the Son of God.” We recognize Him as our Savior and through this acceptance, we abide in God and He in us. God wants us all to be connected to Him and each other in love.

This is the most important lesson for all of us, that “God is love” and in order to be saved we must love God and one another. Jesus tells us this when asked which is the greatest commandment (Matthew 22:36-40).

In Matthew 16:15-16 Jesus asks “But who do you say that I am?” and Peter answers, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” He asks the same question of each of us. We must be ready with the same declaration, determined to follow Him as the disciples of today.

Loving Lord, help us to see You in all Your children, and to love them as You first loved us. Bless us to go in Your name, bringing Your light and love to everyone. Amen.
