Our scripture this morning is Psalms 34:6-9.

In my desperation I prayed, and the Lord listened; he saved me from all my troubles. For the angel of the Lord is a guard; he surrounds and defends all who fear him. Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him! Fear the Lord, you his godly people, for those who fear him will have all they need.

This psalm tells of someone in a desperate situation asking for God’s help. While our situations change, God does not. He is constant in His love and care for us, providing protection and sustenance. The psalmist sings “oh the joys of those who take refuge in Him!”

The phrase “taste and see that the Lord is good” reminds us that we can’t experience His blessings until we go to Him in repentance and accept His forgiveness. He is always ready to welcome us back but we must choose Him first.

God cares about all His creation, but human beings made in His image are at the top of His list.  Matthew 6:26 tells us “Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” When we are in connection with Him, God will protect and provide.

Gracious God, we are grateful for the care and comfort You give, not just when we are troubled, but always. Help us to share Your blessings and truth with all our brothers and sisters. Amen.
