Our scripture this morning is ‭‭Romans‬ ‭12:1-5‬.

“And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us. Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.”

This passage reminds us that we are all unique and beloved by God, endowed with different gifts and called to different tasks. Paul reminds us that all of us are necessary to carry the Good News of Jesus to the world. When we accept Him and the change He makes in our lives, we no longer “copy the behavior and customs of this world” (v. 2) but become a new creation in Him.

God wants us to give up our attachment to worldly things and know His will for us, understanding His love for us and His desire for us to love one another. He invites us back into a relationship with Him and others because we were made to be together. Paul tells us “we are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other” (v. 5).

We are more than just flesh and blood, here to amass possessions and please ourselves. We are part of God’s being, made in His image and expected to treat each other as He intends. May we see that we all belong to each other and live together in His love.

Heavenly Father, we are blessed to be Your children, given a wonderful world to live in and gifts to use in Your name. May we be truly grateful and share our blessings with each other according to Your plan. Amen.
