Our scripture this morning is ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10:32-36.

Think back on those early days when you first learned about Christ. Remember how you remained faithful even though it meant terrible suffering. Sometimes you were exposed to public ridicule and were beaten, and sometimes you helped others who were suffering the same things. You suffered along with those who were thrown into jail, and when all you owned was taken from you, you accepted it with joy. You knew there were better things waiting for you that will last forever. So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you! Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised.

God’s New Covenant through Christ is offered to all, but will only apply to those who are willing to keep their part in it. It is a formal agreement, in effect on earth and in Heaven for eternity. By accepting, we swear our love and obedience to Him.

There are some who believe in the “once saved, always saved” fiction, that after accepting His promise we can do as we please. In fact, the exact opposite is true! When we choose to follow Jesus, we are immediately held to a much higher standard than before.

Paul warns us that “Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will” (v. 36). Living a new life in Christ changes everything! While we will still face temptation and trials, He will be with us through it all.

Gracious God, thank You for the call to be part of Your plan and to go in Your name. May we endure patiently, knowing that our salvation is assured in Christ. Amen.
