Our scripture this morning is 2 Samuel 6:15 (ESV).
So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting and with the sound of the horn.
The ark of the Lord had been crafted during the Exodus. It served as the symbol of God’s presence with the people and was to be revered. The army brought the ark to battle without asking God and the ark was captured by the Philistines (1 Samuel 4). Now King David is bringing the ark to Jerusalem and plans a temple where it will be placed. For the moment Israel is returning to the worship of the Lord and honoring their responsibilities under the covenant. May we celebrate our call to connection with God as joyfully as they did.
Loving Lord, You are always there for us whether we recognize Your presence or not. Help us to seek You in all things and to share Your love with the world. Amen.
