Our scripture this morning is Judges 21:25 (ESV).
In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes.
The last verse in Judges gives a pretty bleak assessment of the situation into which the people have fallen. Sadly, there is a king in Israel – the Lord – but the people don’t obey Him. It is tragic that we will give allegiance and absolute power to earthly rulers while ignoring the God of all things. We need to trust His love and care for us more than our own desires. When we do only what is right in our own eyes, we miss the blessings of a relationship with Him.
Heavenly Father, forgive us for our selfish way of living. May we know the joy of a connection to You and share Your love with the world. Amen.
