Our scripture this morning is Numbers 6:24-26 (NET).
The Lord bless you and protect you; The Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you; The Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
If you are like me, these might be the only verses from Numbers we can quote. When we look carefully there is much more to this book than just lists, rules and instructions. Here God gives the priests a blessing to say over the people. God is teaching them how to minister to those in their care. Many churches still use this benediction to close worship services. It shows God’s love for us and the connection we have with Him. He tells us we can ask for these things – His blessing, His presence and His peace – and share them with the world.
Loving Lord, we are grateful for Your many blessings, none more wonderful than sending us Your Son that we might be saved. Still us and fill us, mend us and send us that we might be the face of Your love to everyone. Amen.
