Our scripture this morning is 2 Timothy 1:6-7 (NIV).
For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.
Paul writes to remind all of us that God has gifted us with things to be used to care for His creation and to spread His love. Timothy has studied under Paul, traveled with Him, and now carries on the ministry while Paul is in prison. Sometimes we confuse the instruction to be humble with being timid. Paul tells us this is not the case, that we can share the Good News boldly while giving the glory to God. Power, love and self-discipline are tools for us to use in the kingdom work which we are assigned. This points out the old phrase God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called.
Heavenly Father, we are amazed that You ask us to be part of what You are doing in the world. Bless us to share Your word with energy and love. Amen.
